What is Domain Rating (DR)?
Domain Rating is a metric created by Ahrefs. It measures the strength of a website backlink profile on a scale from 0 to 100. The score is logarithmic, so moving from DR 70 to 80 is much harder than moving from DR 20 to 30.
What is a good DR score?
There is no single perfect number, because DR only makes sense compared to your competitors. As a rough guide, a DR below 30 is weak, 30 to 59 is average and 60 or above is strong. New websites usually start close to 0 and grow as they earn quality backlinks.
Why check DR before buying backlinks?
A link from a strong, relevant site passes far more value than a link from a weak one. Checking the domain rating of a publisher before you pay for a guest post helps you avoid low value sites. You can also browse our list of vetted publisher websites with DR already shown.
How to increase your Domain Rating
The most reliable way to raise your DR is to earn links from many different high authority websites in your niche. Guest posts on real publishers, niche edits and digital PR all help. Links from many unique strong domains matter more than many links from the same site. If you want a faster start, see our link building packages.
Frequently asked questions
Is this DR checker free?
Yes. The tool is completely free and needs no account. To keep it fast for everyone, each visitor can run up to 10 checks per hour.
Is DR the same as Domain Authority (DA)?
No. DR is calculated by Ahrefs, while DA is calculated by Moz. Both measure link strength, but they use different data and formulas, so the numbers for the same site are often different.
Does Google use DR to rank websites?
No. DR is a third party metric, not a Google ranking factor. It is still one of the most useful ways to compare sites and judge how strong a backlink profile is.
How often does DR change?
DR is recalculated regularly as Ahrefs finds new and lost links across the web, so a score can move up or down over time. Our tool shows the latest available value and the date it was checked.
